Event description

Description

Dr. Kathleen Donnelly, retired professor of Chemestry at Russell Sage College, will take the audience on the journey through the amazing women and their contributions that have been honored by Russell Sage College throughout its storied history. The stories told are highlighted in Donnelly's 2015 book "Women of Influence: Honorary Alumnae of Russell Sage College of The Sage Colleges.

Women of Influence is a series of essays about thirty of the outstanding women from diverse fields who were awarded Honorary Degrees from Russell Sage College of The Sage Colleges. Following an introduction about the founder of the program, James Meader, the essays begin with the first Honorees; Eliza Kellas, Founding President, and Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of New York. In subsequent years, women from diverse fields were recognized, including a cryptologist, physicists, educators, poets, a paleontologist, sculptors, Nobel laureates, activists, physicians, novelists, and more.

Some had advanced degrees, one never finished second grade. A common thread was that each of the honorees found a way to overcome gender-based discrimination. These essays are intended to introduce these remarkable women to new generations so they can continue to inspire others.
