Join New Voices Pittsburgh for Women of Color HERStory Month 2015® as we engage with national women’s health advocates, activists and leaders about the greatest social, economic and political issues facing women of color.
This year’s theme is “Black Women, Feminism & Reproductive Justice.” Our featured speaker is Jamilah Lemieux, Senior Digital Editor of Ebony Magazine.
Chicago-born, Howard-trained and Brooklyn-made, Jamilah Lemieux is a writer, editor, feminist, mom, troublemaker, provacateur and proud millenial gamechanger. An outspoken champion of Black women and girls, Jamilah is also a fierce advocate for racial equality, social justice and LGBT rights/acceptance. Race, gender and sexuality are her passion. Jamilah has written for a host of print and digital properties and is a frequent guest on MSNBC, Huffington Post Live and Al Jazeera Amercia. In 2014, Jamilah was named to The Root 100 list of the nation's most influential African Americans.
Local and regional panelists will also enrich the conversation and issue a call to action and support for the in-state launch of the National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda and the efforts of New Voices Pittsburgh to build the voting power of Black women in Allegheny County and Pennsylvania through our Voice Your Vote! Project™.
