Event description
Come and hear how Black women did not accept their exclusion from white suffrage organizations or their racist tactics to keep them out.

About this Event

August 18, 2020 will mark the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment to the U. S. constitution granting women the right to vote. Not only did white suffragists diminish the role of their black and brown compatriots in the suffrage fight but when its history was written, they rendered women of color and their significant contributions to the fight for equality, virtually invisible.

Historian Jimmy Richardson will discuss the role of Black women during the suffrage movement.
