Women of Color Healing Retreats is a space dedicated to connecting black women to nature while building community. Its goal is to assist in healing and inner peace. It is a place to bring women of color together to experience wellness, adventure and fun in the magical town of Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, your retreat includes the following:
Lodging: 5 days / 6 nights shared accommodation at a beautiful eco-friendly lodge located in the rain forest. Each day of the retreat will also focus on navigating through the 5 elements and each of the 7 chakras, moving from the root to the crown, focusing on foods, yoga and meditation to heal and nourish each of the chakras. If you are not familiar with the 5 elements or Chakras this is also a good way to learn.
Breakfast: Vegetarian Breakfast. This is for anyone who is currently a vegetarian and for those interested in exploring a vegetarian lifestyle. Healing organic vegetarian, vegan and Afro Caribbean meals made with local Caribbean fruits and vegetables will be provided. Also offered: pure coconut juice, herbal teas, juices, superfoods and smoothies to nourish, balance and heal.
Massage or Reiki: Each woman will receive a 60 minute relaxing massage or Reiki healing session.
Dinner: On some evenings we will eat at the lodge or you will be able to venture off to local restaurants, so that we can also support the businesses of the people of Costa Rica.
Meditation: Morning Meditations (Some are guided meditations).There's no level, so just come with an open heart.
Decolonizing Yoga: Morning Yoga offering both Beginner and Intermediate levels. Every morning the group will take a guided outdoor yoga class and/or mediation class at the lodge, surrounded by the majestic jungle.
Waterfall: We will hike to the stunning Rio Dos Aguas waterfall. Here, you can take a dip or simply be amongst the falls and jungle.
Surf or Swim Class: Take a two-hour surf class for beginners with an expert surf teacher here in Costa Rica or you can choose to take a swimming lesson. There are many people who don't know how to swim simply because they have never been taught. This will be a space where women of color can learn how to swim without fear of judgment.
Beach and Bike: We will venture off to the beaches on bike. The main transportation here is bicycling. If you do not want to bike ride, there are many cabs that will take you to the beach as well. Of course, biking through the jungle will give you the full pura vida experience!
Zip Lining: The women will zip line across the majestic jungle!
Afro Costa Rican Cooking Class: During this hands-on workshop participants will get to know traditional Afro-Costa Rican foodways with a local woman named Wuanda. You'll work with coconuts from husk, to shell, to making milk and then incorporate fresh picked local foods into this traditional dish cooked over fire. Afterwards enjoy this nourishing meal in good company!
Women's Circle: The women will journal, hold discussions and cultivate a safe space to heal and grow.
Bon Fire: Play, Stretch, Dance, Connect with Mother Earth!
Workshops/Women's Circle: There will be several women’s workshops and circles throughout the retreat. The following list is a sample of those workshops/circles:
Medicine Garden Walk: As women of color we have a rich history and deep ancestral connection to partnering with plants for medicine. As women of color we also have a critically important role in the future, to reclaim plant medicine to heal ourselves, our families and our communities. In this workshop we will take a brief look into the past at our role as plant healers, we will then focus on herbal medicine basics we can employ right away for our own healing, and finally we will look forward to ensure that our birthright as herbalists is preserved.
Self Love Workshop: 60-90 minute interactive workshop that defines self care on a basic level. Guided journaling will hold the space for detaching from titles that do not serve highest good while redefining passion for pure excellence. Participants will leave the class with a self care plan that contains at least three (3) sustainable, affordable, and accessible methods of daily self care.
Healing Brown Skin Naturally : Learn how to create body butters, exfoliators, facial masks and washes out of natural ingredients in this hands on workshop. Appreciating our beauty by activating the true essence of our melanin from the gifts of nature.
Exploring Colorism: The women of color will form a circle of support as we explore the different dynamics of colorism. Healing different shades of brown.
Women's Spirituality: Manifesting and affirmations, connecting with Mother Earth, crystal healing, understanding/trusting intuition and more!
