The Women Like Us Foundation Hollywood (WLUFH) is a program of the Women Like Us Foundation, a 501c3 public charity with a mission of encouraging, empowering, and engaging women and girls to make a difference locally and globally. WLUFH's specific mission is furthering their mentorship program for at-risk teen girls in Los Angeles. Catt Sadler, an Emmy-Award winning journalist and anchor for E! News is president and co-founder of WLUFH with Xochitl Medina designer of XOCHI LOS ANGELES. Catt’s mother, Linda Rendleman, co-created the Women Like Us Foundation with Sally Bassett in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2008. The WLUFH, this year alone, is launching 5 new mentorship programs, targeting at-risk teens ages 15-18 and expanding their outreach and education through scholarship assistance and funded humanitarian trips overseas supported through donor funding and a grant from Scrapbook Clothing.

ENCOURAGE. EMPOWER. ENGAGE.

ESTABLISHED 2010

MISSION
Encourage, Empower and Engage young women through workshops and programs that support healthy self-esteem, education, and strategies for living their best lives. Our program focuses on mentoring, workshops experiences and guidance to help them become the best they can be.

OUR STORY
Based on the book, Women Like Us: Real Stories and Strategies for Living Your Best Life, by Indianapolis native Linda Rendleman, an inspirational tea and speaker series was created by Linda and Dr. Sally Brown Bassett to expand on the theme of the common threads that run through women's lives. Our stories are singular, but our passions are shared. After the initial events’ success, the Women Like Us Foundation was created in Indianapolis to inspire and empower women and under-served girls to make a difference globally and locally.  Linda’s daughter, Catt Sadler, Emmy-award winning journalist and one of the hosts of E! News, was so inspired by her mother’s work that she was moved into action as well. She was first named International Spokesperson for the Women Like Us Foundation in early 2010. Later that year she partnered with entrepreneur and friend Xochitl Medina founder of XOCHI LOS ANGELES a men's clothing copnay and founded Women Like Us Hollywood. Catt and Xochitl lead Women Like Us Hollywood, with about 15 members and numerous volunteers.

"ONE GIRL AT A TIME" MENTOR PROGRAM

The Hollywood program members have designed a mentor program headed by Angela Palmieri for the at-risk middle school kids at Castro Middle School in downtown Los Angeles in partnership with A World Fit for Kids to provide leadership in the areas of academics, arts, culture, and more. It is estimated that half of these at-risk kids will not graduate high school. WLUH has delivered school supplies to the students reaching over 100 kids 2 years in a row. In the 2011-2012 school year, the mentors worked with the kids monthly and in December, took them to the Nutcracker with the help of supportive corporate sponsors like the LA Ballet.   In 2012, WLUF Hollywood program began its collaboration with Scrapbook clothing. Scrapbook clothing supports the WLUF Hollywood vision to expand to other locations and build genuine partnerships so that more students will be positively impacted by our efforts.

The goal for 2013 is to expand to 5 new locations targeting teen’s ages of 15-18 with the capacity to offer a scholarship to a nominated student to continue their education and the opportunity to experience a humanitarian trip overseas.

GLOBAL PROJECTS
The WLU Foundation and its many chapters support global humanitarian projects in Costa Rica, Kenya, India, South Africa, Uganda, Serbia, and beyond. Our volunteers inspire at schools, orphanages, and birthing centers. All WLU chapters thrive and inspire globally in addition to their local specialized efforts.
