"ONE GIRL AT A TIME" MENTOR PROGRAM
The Hollywood program members have designed a mentor program headed by Angela Palmieri for the at-risk middle school kids at Castro Middle School in downtown Los Angeles in partnership with A World Fit for Kids to provide leadership in the areas of academics, arts, culture, and more. It is estimated that half of these at-risk kids will not graduate high school. WLUH has delivered school supplies to the students reaching over 100 kids 2 years in a row. In the 2011-2012 school year, the mentors worked with the kids monthly and in December, took them to the Nutcracker with the help of supportive corporate sponsors like the LA Ballet. In 2012, WLUF Hollywood program began its collaboration with Scrapbook clothing. Scrapbook clothing supports the WLUF Hollywood vision to expand to other locations and build genuine partnerships so that more students will be positively impacted by our efforts.
The goal for 2013 is to expand to 5 new locations targeting teen’s ages of 15-18 with the capacity to offer a scholarship to a nominated student to continue their education and the opportunity to experience a humanitarian trip overseas.
