Event description

Description

Real role models, real conversations, real impact.

The WISMP Summit brings WISMP program participants and allies from the community together for a day of curated content, with a focus on tactical take-aways. We specifically look to cover content that isn't covered in school or discussed in other places – but is incredibly impactful to our mixed audience of technical students and professionals. Our goal is that attendees leave with a list of tactical actions that they could implement right away.

Summit 2019 will have two Keynotes, a lightning panel, and several simultaneously running Workshops and Discussion Groups. There will also be time to network with other women in STEM from around the Bay Area.

Keynotes:

Heidi Williams has started two companies and is currently the CTO of tEQuitable. In her spare time, she runs an organization called WEST, which enables mentorship of mid-career women in STEM. In her Keynote, Heidi will talk about the learnings from these mentorship conversations: what lessons had women wished they had learned sooner and which ones did they have to unlearn?

Cynthia Maxwell is an engineering leader who has worked at admired companies like Slack, Yahoo!, Pinterest, & Apple. She’s also a mother. Cynthia will share her tactical, no-holds-barred lessons on combining career with family.

Lightning Panelists:

Zeesha Currimbhoy - The fear of failure
Stephanie Whalen - Working with international teams
Suzanne Pierre - My journey in academia

Workshops (60 minutes) and Discussion Groups (30 minutes):

Secrets of Networking: an Interactive Experience with Raquel Velez (attendance capped at 15)
Salary Negotiation Tactics and Best Practices with Aliisa Rosenthal (attendance capped at 20)
Resume Review with Tammy Han (for maximum experience, bring a paper copy of your resume to get feedback on)
Entrepreneurship from Multiple Directions with Tessa Lau
Discussion Groups

  • Tackling Imposter Syndrome with Melissa Savage
  • Pursuing Academia: Finding Labs and Mentors with Clarice Aiello
  • More to be added
