Please join ASMP Chicago/Midwest, Chicago Women in Photography (CWIP) and Columbia College Chicago for an all women panel of editorial photographers to discuss the current state of editorial photography today.

The panel will discuss the reality of working in the field as a woman, how to be successful in it, licensing issues, promoting yourself, portfolio strategies and more. We are thrilled to welcome for the evening a talented and impressive panel of women including:

ALYSSA SCHUKAR
Based in Chicago, Alyssa Schukar is an independent photographer, producing photo and video projects for national and international clients. In her personal work, she's interested in examining how our surroundings shape our communities and individual experiences. In recent years, she's focused on environmental injustices emerging throughout the Rust Belt. website: http://www.alyssaschukar.com/

Her images have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, TIME Magazine, Chicago magazine, The New Yorker, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, among others. National commercial clients include UPS and Glenmorangie. Recently, she participated in a national photo campaign for The New York Times T Brand Studio.

MEG HANDLER
Meg Handler is Editor at Large for Reading The Pictures. She is the former photo editor of THe Village Voice. Following The Voice, Meg worked at U.S. News & World Report, Blender, New York Magazine, COLORS and Polaris Images. She has edited a number of books, including the monograph, Phil Stern: A Life’s Work, PAPARAZZI by Peter Howe, Mad World: An Oral History of New Wave Artists and Songs That Defined the 80’s, and DETROIT UNBROKEN DOWN by Dave Jordano. Meg recently co-curated ‘Whose Streets? Our Streets! New York 1980-2000, at theBronx Documentary Center, up through March 5 2017.

KAT SCHLEICHER
Kat Schleicher is a freelance photographer based in the Midwest. She was born on the coast of a great lake in Michigan, spent her childhood on a little farm in Central Illinois, lived next to a rice field in Japan, the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and the hills of Los Angeles. She currently resides on the other side of that great lake she was born on, in Milwaukee, where she and her husband are raising their two young children. She started her education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she studied photography and graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio. Website: katschleicher.com

ANNE RYAN
Anne Ryan has been a professional photographer for 33 years, including ten years as a staff photographer for USA Today. As one of only six staff photographers there she covered major events all over the country and around the world, including four Olympic Games, Superbowls, World Series, Presidential candidates, and major news events. Anne is married to freelance photographer John Zich, and, after having three children, Anne decided to focus on work closer to home and has been freelancing for 17 years, doing less and less editorial photography every year.

Anne's work has been published in USA Today, Newsweek, Time, BusinessWeek, Sports Illustrated, The Guardian, L’Express, Journal Dimanche, Oggi, Traditional Home, and Marie Claire.

MARTHA WILLIAMS
Martha Williams is a Chicago-based photo editor and photographer. She is currently the Director of Photography at Chicago magazine and has been photographing food and drink content for over 10 years. She was formerly the Photo Editor at Time Out Chicago, co-creator of Craft Cocktail an iPhone app, she also documented Chicago's fashionable (mostly) female cyclists on her blog bikefancy.com. She graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in Fine Art Photography.
