Description

The Datathon, a new feature of the global Women in Data Science (WiDS) conference in 2018, will run from February 1-28. The competition seeks to encourage women data scientists to engage in social impact solutions by participating in a predictive analytics challenge. Learn more about the data set and challenge!

To support teams and entries in our region, Harvard, MIT, Microsoft New England R&D have a workshop and team formation session on Monday, Feb 12th from 4pm-9:30pm. The workshop will be taught by Weiwei Pan from Harvard Institute of Applied Computational Sciences and Anastasiya Belyaeva from MIT Institue of Data, Systems and Society.

AGENDA

• 3:30pm: Doors Open & Check-In

• 4pm-5:30pm: Kaggle Competition Workshop for beginning data scientists

• 5:30pm-8:30pm: Team Formation, Solution Development, and Dinner

• 8:30pm-9:30pm: Team Presentations & Next Steps

Notes:

  • The workshop will be geared towards beginning data scientists and will cover data exploration/visualization, data cleaning, feature engineering, and modeling.
  • Bring your laptop!
  • Experienced/senior data scientists are welcome to come and help mentor/lead teams during the team formation, solution development, and presentations from 5:30pm-9:30pm.
  • Teams must be a total of 4 or fewer and have at least 50% women.
