Description

What are different industries doing with data and analytics in 2019? How are organizations integrating data science into their flow of business? Why is data important to economic prosperity? What does this mean to the people and skills that are needed to work in the upcoming big data landscape? Join us for a panel discussion to learn more about the big data trends to expect in 2019!

We are thrilled to have Katrin Shechtman (Head of Architecture at Thomson Reuters), Janice Tsang (Senior Analyst at RBC Ventures) and Jan Kestle (President of Environics Analytics) join us on the panel.

OVERVIEW

The landscape of big data has been transformed over the past few years. Predictive analytics continue to penetrate more and more industries, while the rise of tools that automate data analysis and machine learning -- with no less than a simple drag and drop -- has made drawing insights from big data more accessible.

Moving into 2019, we expect some of these topics to stay in the spotlight and gain more momentum. We also expect some of them to fizzle out in the background, giving room for new trends to rise. We invite you to our panel discussion with three data professionals to learn more about the trends to expect in 2019.

PANEL SPEAKERS

Katrin Shechtman is the Head of Architecture at Thomson Reuters, where she is responsible for the company’s cloud transformation. Previously, she worked with several startups as a Software Engineer, Team Lead and Architect, building highly scalable low latency distributed systems. Katrin also teaches the Data Science program at the University of Toronto. She holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Computer Science (with Thesis in Distributed Computing) from Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Janice Tsang is a strategist with finance and data analytics experience. Currently, she is a Senior Analyst at RBC Ventures where she scales over 20 ventures that reinvent banking. She also pioneers cross-functional initiatives with the core bank by employing her business intuition and quantitative skills. Janice is a CFA charterholder and a Masters of Management Analytics candidate. In her spare time, she volunteers with Data for Good and engages in alternative data acquisition with Earthwatch.

President and CEO of Environics Analytics (EA), Jan Kestle has been a leader in the marketing information industry for more than forty years. An expert in using statistics and mathematics to help solve business challenges, she directed the initiatives that led to the creation of EA’s PRIZM5 segmentation system and WealthScapes financial database, among other data-based products. Over the years, she’s helped hundreds of customers—in industries ranging from finance and retail to the not-for-profit sector—turn data and analytics into insight, strategy and engagement. Prior to founding EA in 2003, Jan was president of Compusearch and spent 19 years at the Ontario Statistical Centre.
