Panelists:

Erin Smith Aebel, Partner, Healthcare Practice Co-Administrator, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP - Erin is board certified as a health law specialist by the Florida Bar. She represents physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers in business law including fraud and abuse, Stark, HIPAA and licensure. Erin also advises on a variety of Florida health law issues including the developing medical marijuana law. In 2014, the Tampa Bay Business Journal named Erin Business Woman of the Year in the category of legal services. In 2016, the international company, Lexology, awarded Erin the Client Choice Award in London, England for health law in Florida. The Client Choice Award is for excellent client service.

Melba Pearson, Deputy Director for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Florida - Before joining the ACLU, Melba was an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County for 16 years. After prosecuting a variety of crimes, she was selected to join the Domestic Crimes Unit, focusing on serious domestic violence crimes as well as homicides for close to four years. In her next assignment, Ms. Pearson was integral to the re-launch of the Community Prosecution Unit, whose goal is partnering with the community to find creative solutions to prevent crime and provide outreach. She ended her prosecutorial career as the Assistant Chief in the Career Criminal/Robbery Unit.

Jennifer Yeagley, MA, Vice President for Administrative & Strategic Operations for Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services - Prior to GCJFCS, Jennifer served as Executive Director for Community Tampa Bay, an anti-discrimination organization focused on dialogue and education. In 2016, Jennifer was recognized with the Florida Diversity Council LGBT Ally Award. She has presented in forums around the nation on diversity and cultural competence, including for the National Association for African-American Studies, Mid-Atlantic Women’s Studies Association and Florida Philanthropic Network.
