Event description
Join us for a special International Women's Day event entitled "Women as Climate Justice Champions".

About this Event

Women and girls are the most adversely affected by climate change, yet they are also well-suited to find solutions to prevent further degradation and adapt to the changing environment. Distinguished speakers will discuss how women all over the world are fighting for environmental justice in their own countries and communities.

Special guest will be Linda Eckerbom Cole, Founder and Executive Director of African Women Rising, a nonprofit that works in partnership with community-based groups to improve the lives of women in post-conflict areas of Africa. African Women Rising empowers women after war by providing technical skills and support for success via education, agriculture, and microfinance training.

The event will also broadcast keynote presentations by Dr. Tererai Trent and Dr. Laly Lichtenfeld.

Dr. Tererai Trent is one of today’s most internationally recognized voices for quality education and women’s empowerment. Distinguished as Oprah Winfrey’s “All-Time Favorite Guest,” Dr. Trent is a scholar, humanitarian, motivational speaker, educator, author, and the founder of Tererai Trent International, which aims to provide quality education in rural Africa. Her new book, The Awakened Woman: Remembering & Reigniting Our Sacred Dreams, has a foreword by Oprah Winfrey and was the Winner of a 2017 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work.

Dr. Laly Lichtenfeld is Co-Founder and CEO of African People & Wildlife, a nonprofit that helps rural communities in Tanzania conserve and benefit from their wildlife and natural resources. Dr. Lichtenfeld believes in finding the balance for communities and nature. In 2019, she was honored to be named a “Woman of Impact” by the National Geographic Society and was featured among the world’s leading female visionaries.
