About this event
Women and girls are the most adversely affected by climate change, yet they are also well-suited to find solutions to prevent further degradation and adapt to the changing environment. Distinguished speakers will discuss how women all over the world are fighting for environmental justice in their own countries and communities.
This "Women as Climate Justice Champions" will headline Dr. Tererai Trent, one of today’s most internationally recognized voices for quality education and women’s empowerment. Distinguished as Oprah Winfrey’s “All-Time Favorite Guest,” Dr. Trent is a scholar, humanitarian, motivational speaker, educator, author, and the founder of Tererai Trent International, which aims to provide quality education in rural Africa. Her new book, The Awakened Woman: Remembering & Reigniting Our Sacred Dreams, has a foreword by Oprah Winfrey and was the Winner of a 2017 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work.
Speakers also include Dr. Laly Lichtenfeld, Co-Founder and CEO of African People & Wildlife, a nonprofit that helps rural communities in Tanzania conserve and benefit from their wildlife and natural resources. Dr. Lichtenfeld believes in finding the balance for communities and nature. In 2019, she was honored to be named a “Woman of Impact” by the National Geographic Society and was featured among the world’s leading female visionaries.
Following the presentations, Dr. Trent's book will be available for purchase, and she will also be signing copies of her book.
