In partnership with the Center for Talent Innovation (CTI) and nonprofit publisher The Library of America, the Athena Center is co-hosting the event Women and Power. Economist, author and CTI Founding President, Sylvia Ann Hewlett will discuss early findings from her organization’s report on Women and Power which will explore women and their association with power in global markets. Also this fall, acclaimed novelist and biographer, Susan Cheever, unveils newsworthy but long forgotten gems by beloved author, Louisa May Alcott in her new collection Louisa May Alcott: Work . . . & Other Writings. Cheever will show how issues facing Victorian women in the work place shed light on issues women face today.
The pairing of these two works will ignite a powerful dialogue on the Barnard campus and beyond – affording a unique opportunity to connect and compare the struggles of women at work in the nineteenth century and today.
