About This Event

Join General Assembly and BigTalker for an insightful discussion about women and power. Our panelists will focus on women’s leadership in the context of culture and power structures, different sources of power as well as how we change at different career stages.

We’ll explore a few key questions:

  • How do women navigate power structures?
  • How do women influence others and groups with and without authority, explore the gender dynamic around power?
  • How do women build resiliency skills and maintain a sense of empowerment in the workplace even when faced with difficult interpersonal dynamics?
  • What are the important relationships to cultivate (e.g mentors, peers, with men/women, networking etc.)?

You'll walk away with tangible, actionable advice for how you can navigate power structures, as well as important sources of support.

Lela Djakovic, Founder and CEO, EQED

Lela Djakovic ( is the founder and CEO at EQED, a Silicon Valley advisory firm that focuses on designing high performing teams and enhancing business performance by leveraging emotional intelligence (EQ) and resilience skills. She is always searching for the fastest and most effective ways to build EQ and bring about lasting behavioral change.

Lela facilitates the popular elective Interpersonal Dynamics (aka Touchy Feely) at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She co-founded three other ventures in finance, software, and cosmetics. Previously, she worked in leveraged finance and was a credit and commodity derivatives trader at Goldman Sachs in London. Lela holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Durham, England.

Alicia Jabbar, Founder,Inside Out Incubator

Alicia Jabbar, CPCC, ACC is a certified executive coach who works with individuals stepping into big changes by choice or circumstance. Her experience translates to teams in high growth environments where roles and requirements for success change quickly. Alicia's mission as a coach is to raise clients' conscience in designing a life that best honors their individual strengths and drive.

Katie Roof, TechCrunch, Senior Writer/Video Host

Katie Roof is a senior writer and video host at TechCrunch. She has an interest in late stage venture capital, and is especially enthusiastic about commerce, social media and apps. Previously, Roof was a tech reporter for and has been a contributor at Reuters, TheStreet and Forbes. She has held television production roles at CNN and Bloomberg TV.

Zanette Johnson Ph.D, Principal Consultant, Intrinsic Impact Consulting

Dr. Zanette Johnson is principal and founder at Intrinsic Impact Consulting, a company that helps teams to increase engagement, wellbeing and effectiveness while they reach their shared goals. As an experience designer, facilitator and researcher, Zanette helps teams make small, powerful changes at three related levels: the workplace context, interpersonal interactions and individual behaviors. These targeted shifts garner big returns in terms of employees’ intrinsic satisfaction and productivity. Drawing upon her background as a neuroscientist and her 25 years as a mindfulness practitioner, Zanette teaches people to stay relaxed and consistent as they build alignment between their daily actions and future goals— always using the power of rituals and routines to bring new practices to life in teams and organizations. Zanette holds a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Religious Studies, a Master’s in Teaching, and a doctoral degree from Stanford University’s transdisciplinary “Learning Science and Technology Design” program.

Susannah Baldwin Ph.D, Executive Speech and Communications Coach

Susannah Baldwin, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and leadership and communication coach. She spent 10 years working in management development with Fortune 50 companies. For the last 15 years, she has coached executives for high-stakes presentations and related communication issues in Tech and Biotech companies. Susannah has extensive experience as a public speaker and moderator in conference settings. She is the host of a radio show titled Speaking of Women. Susannah’s program for women titled Women, Language, and Power reviews current research, explores issues of gender and power, and teaches women styles of speaking that can maximize their impact, for better results.
