The West Orange High School Annual Black History Month Scholarship Dinner will celebrate not only the accomplishments of the African-American community but also highlights the talents of its students. This annual event serves to raises funds for a scholarship for a current graduating senior each year.
We are honored for this year's guest speaker, Dr. Janice Johnson Dias holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Temple University with a specialization in urban and political sociology. Her research focuses on mothers and children.
She is the Founder and President of the GrassROOTS Community Foundation, a national training agency with a focus on public health and social action organization.
A native of Jamaica, she is also an Associate Professor of Sociology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the 2018 Recipient of West Orange MLK Service Award, and mother of author and change maker, Marley Dias, #1000BlackGirlBooks
