WORKSHOPS

Social Media with Dinica Williams - It seems everyone is on social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, IG, Snap Chat. You have the right to freedom of speech, but do you know your limits? Do you know what public servants CANNOT say on social media? Protect yourself and your job with this workshop.

Social Media Do’s & Don’ts with Dinica Williams - It seems everyone is on social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, IG, Snap Chat. You have the right to freedom of speech, but do you know your limits? Do you know what public servants CANNOT say on social media? Protect yourself and your job with this workshop.

Building Reps: First Line of Communication with Wayne Wlodarski - Communication is vital in any professional association. Your association can’t rely on rumors, casual gossip, chance meetings in hallways, stuffed mailboxes to get the word out. Learn simple, effective, time-saving techniques to make your work as a Building Representative a pleasure. Building reps are the backbone of your association – but the job doesn’t have to be backbreaking!

What the Health? with Nick Gurich - Staff from OEA’s Education Policy, Research and Member Advocacy (EPRMA) department will be presenting on the fundamentals of health insurance. The presentation will include an overview of health plan basics as well as a review of current trends in public sector benefits. Finally, staff will review EPRMA’s yearly Health Care Trends Report.

The Missing Link, Understanding Your District with Sophia Rodriguez - Western Ohio Education Association (WOEA), the missing link that connects local members to the Ohio Education Association (OEA). Learn how WOEA connects you to OEA from the board of directors through committee work. Sophia Rodriguez, past-president of WOEA, will explain how WOEA is linked to OEA and the opportunities the district offers to connect local member to district member to state member.

First Friend, Best Friend with Todd Jaeck - There is a song lyric that states: “I get by with a little help from my friends.”  In no profession is this more true and needed than in education.  Public school educators must have collegial support from the first through the last days of their career. New ESPs and teachers cannot do their job isolated and ignored. This workshop provides practical strategies that ensure supportive working relationships among members that will make the difference in the strength of your association and the quality of your workplace.

Know Your Contract with Eric Urban - One of the most important tasks of your association is bargaining your contract. Much research, time and effort goes into negotiating a fair agreement between the board and the association. However, this important work does not end when the contract is ratified. Your members must remain knowledgeable and vigilant throughout the duration of their contract. Learn key elements and important provisions needed in every collective bargaining agreement. This workshop is strongly recommended for those associations bargaining in 2018. Be prepared!

WOEA District Reorganization Convening with Scott DiMauro and Dan Ramos - Join member leaders and activists of WOEA as we convene to talk about what is at stake for OEA members, public schools and the students we serve during next year's election. At the event members will: Learn about the important races and issues on the 2018 ballot statewide Discuss with OEA GR Staff the important legislative races in Western Ohio Elect your Delegate and Alternate to the OEA-FCPE State Convention and your House and Senate District Chair and Vice-Chair Learn how you can get involved early in organizing your colleagues for the 2018 Election
