Description

WNYSBR Corporate Volunteer Service Day Opportunity

Summers are all about community impact and WNYSBR Board of Directors encourage all members to join us. Come spend a Saturday morning at Seneca Bluffs Natural Habitat Park, renewing your team spirit while making a difference in habitat protection!

Our WNYSBR Corporate Volunteer Service Day enables you and your colleagues to break from the office routine and unite for a common, positive goal as a business and Roundtable member. Plus, as your team works together, they will gain insight into the effects of invasive species and learn more about the Buffalo River restoration work. This is a great opportunity to expose your co-workers/ friends/ family members to new causes, all while having a great time together!

Become WNYSBR local habitat heroes by dedicating your time eradicating invasive species, removing trash and debris from upstream wash-up and in-park litter.

About the park

Seneca Bluffs Natural Habitat Park, is a 15-acre riparian floodplain along the Buffalo River. Despite its urban surroundings it serves as a sanctuary for a diverse spread of wildlife. In 1994 Seneca Bluffs was identified as a distinctive and critical habitat in need of protection. It was composed of over 80% invasive and non-native species dominated primarily by Japanese Knotweed. Knotweed is a fast growing, dense plant that engulfs native species and chokes them out. Over the years vast amounts of time and resources has been devoted to eradicate this green jungle. Now it’s our turn to put in our combined efforts to provide the best park possible!

What to expect

You and your team will check in and receive clean up supplies. Vicki Haas from Erie County Department of Environment & Planning will give an intro on safety issues, the park and Buffalo River restorations. Everyone will then form teams to take on assigned clean up tasks. Remember to take lots of photos, as there will be many great photo opportunities! We will meet up at the end to report our results and to return any borrowed supplies.

What to wear: Long pants and socks with closed shoes. What to bring: We will have garbage bags and some garden tools & gloves. Please bring your own garden spade if you happen to have one at home! Remember to bring plenty of water & to apply sun screen and tick repellant prior to the event! (closest bathroom is at Tom Horton’s down the street)

Welcome!
