Event description

Description

Singing, humming, chanting mantras...the act of releasing or expressing through sound what is within, is an act of the soul. When we allow vocal expression, we let go our social selves and drop into our wonderus, magical, joyous true selves.

Singing allows us to process emotions- joy, hope, grief, sadness. It can connect us to our ancestors and to that which is greater than ourselves. Singing in groups even has the ability to synchronize our hearts. Song has been used to teach history, trades, and to celebrate holidays, gods, our religions and nature.

In this new monthly gathering we will create a beautiful, safe, loving, non-judgmental, inclusive container so that our true selves can shine. I envision us as women coming together to amplify that which rises within each of us in our voices and in our souls, by joining in collectively to support the beauty that rises from each individual.

-Imagine a drum circle, where one woman initiates a rhythm, others join in on their drums, and then as led by another woman, the rhythm shifts, and their is a glorious unplanned, yet synchronized shift from all. Instead of drums, we will lift our voices.

-There is NO WRONG WAY TO SING. There is no script. There is no expectation of accuracy or "being on key". There isn't even an expectation of words.

Sliding scale of $5-$20 (Half of the proceeds remain with our magical host site to support its care.) If monetary exchange is a hardship, an availability to connect with me to volunteer either with me or the host site in leiu of money.

I have found great release, joy and connection to that which is greater, by simply allowing whatever rises within me to happen. What do I sing? Julie Andrews (she is my joy channel), favorites from various decades of my life...from all genres, kids camp songs, sounds...sounds that must come from a time and a lineage deep in my past. Phrases that rise in me that represent my current feelings, desires to shift my energy or that offer inspiration and encouragement. ...and yes, sometimes there is dance too.

-Time magazine: " singing is like an infusion of the perfect tranquilizer, the kind that both soothes your nerves and elevates your spirits".Endorphins and oxytocin flow. It also lessens depressive symptoms. Singing can actually re-wire our brains. It improves our heath and sociability.

All who identify as female, ages 12 and up are welcome. Bring a blanket to sit on or a very low chair if you physically require it (like me).
