PsychAssets proudly presents the Wise Mind Well Body: A "Powering the Mind" Series!

About this Event

The Wise Mind Well Body: A "Powering the Mind" Series will explore topics important to individuals between the ages of 17 - 23. Participants will learn how these issues affect all our lives. Each session will provide fresh perspectives and will offer exploration of the interconnection between these issues and how we interact with them in the modern world.

We will be discussing the following topics:

Exercise: Mind, Body, & Soul (Sept. 26th): Explaining through movement how we integrate our mind, body, and soul. Being able to break down the psychology behind exercise and what motivates you to move in your daily life. Discovering whole self wellness.

Social Media (Oct. 10th): Discussing social media influences and perception of our self, others, and the world. Adapting in a social media age, understanding its effects on our relationships and mental health. Such as social comparison, masks/personas versus healthy engagement.

Pros and Cons of Technology (Oct. 24th): We will be discussing the pros and cons of technological advancement, and its effects on mental health.

Emotional Regulation (Nov. 7th): We will build emotional and social intelligence by expanding emotion vocabulary and learning emotion regulation strategies. We will explore questions like: what is my emotional tone, or signature.

Relationship to Food (Nov 21st): Exploring the role of food in our history and identity, interpersonal relationships, and attitudes towards food. Making intuitive eating a more practiced concept. Exploring various ways on how to think, feel and behave towards food.

Addiction (Dec. 5th): Chemical addiction vs. psychological addiction, statistics, marijuana, alcohol, opioid, stigma, and the social pressures of addiction…..ex.e-cigs, JUUL. Signs of addiction and sources to get help.

Socio-Political Climate (Dec. 19th): How does the current divisive climate affect your identity, relationships with people, beliefs and hopes about the future.

*Disclaimer* - Not to debate politics or issues but to talk about how it has impacted your life.

Mental Health Stigma (Jan. 2nd): Discuss mental health awareness and stigmas that are associated with popular labels such as depression, bi-polar, anxiety, and what contributes. Discussing common myths, self-care, how to help someone with mental illness.

Groups will meet Thursdays from 4:30 - 6 pm.
