In The Wisdom of Trauma, we travel alongside physician, bestselling author and Order of Canada recipient Dr. Gabor Maté to explore the connection between illness, addiction, trauma and why western society is facing such epidemics. Dr. Maté weaves together scientific research, case histories, and his own insights and experience to present a trauma-informed perspective that enlightens and empowers people to promote healing and seek to understand the sources of the wounded human soul.

YWCA recognizes the prevalence of trauma in our society. Trauma is the invisible force that shapes our lives and with which we make sense of the world.

Our intention in sharing this film with the community is to collectively recognize on-going shocks and stressors, intergenerational trauma, and historical oppression and connect on a path to healing. We hope to:

  • Understand the interconnectedness of mental health, chronic illness and substance use.
  • Notice and feel the trauma symptoms in ourselves
  • Acknowledge the imprint of trauma on our behaviors and its impact on our relationships
  • See the person rather than the behavior
  • Support connection and compassion as the foundations of safety

The Wisdom of Trauma is a film produced by Zaya & Maurizio Benazzo and Caroline Harrison who have joined their entities Science & Nonduality in partnership with The Hive Studios.

LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO BREAK THE CYCLES OF TRAUMA AND

TO CREATE A MORE COMPASSIONATE SOCIETY.
