Event description

Description

Preconference day is a prelude event to the Governor’s Conference. We provide the opportunity for a variety of traffic safety partners to host an event during this day for their specific traffic safety discipline. The Preconference day is free and open to the public. Please note that each workshop/event has specific requirements of registration and accommodation available. Please contact the assigned representative of each workshop in the workshop details list below.

Workshop Details:

Governor’s Council on Highway Safety: 10-12pm

The 15-member Council meets quarterly and is charged with advising the Governor, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Secretary and the Highway Safety Coordinator on matters of highway safety.

Please contact Ian Wright at ian.wright@dot.wi.gov for any question about this event.

Crash Form Tranning: Session One: 10-12pm, Session Two: 1-3pm

A sweeping revision to the two-decade old MV4000 Crash Form and database went into effect on January 1, 2017. These revisions provide additional crash details to Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and local agencies which result in improved opportunities for data-driven strategic efforts to promote highway safety.

New fields in the database will collect more information about crashes. Examples include crashes involving cell phone use, guardrail crashes, and crashes at roundabouts. These new fields will make a more complete picture of the crash scene, both from the roadway characteristics (if a guardrail was involved, if the crash was at a roundabout) and from a human factors perspective (what the crash victims were doing at the time of the crash/ what caused the crash).

The new crash forms (DT4000, DT3480 and DT4002) have been in effect for over 5 months and the crash database project teams have made over 440 changes and updates to improve them. These improvements were made in response to both internal and external stakeholder’s feedback. Thank you for all your feedback in improving the crash forms. Due to these changes and the need for opportunities for training, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Bureau of Transportation Safety (BOTS) - Crash Records Unit (CRU) team will provide hands-on demonstrations to train Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) and departmental representatives on the updates to the crash forms. If possible, please bring your own laptop with Test TraCS version installed in order to participate in the hands-on training. Thank you again for all your help. See you all soon.

Please contact Chokkalingam Muthumari at Chokkalingam.Muthumari@dot.wi.gov for any question about this event.
