Event description
Winter Wind 2021: Snowmobiling on the North Shore

About this Event

ARM’s Winter Wind event features two days of networking and snowmobile riding. It has been structured to give you the flexibility to ride on just one day or on both days. The networking portion of the event is in between the rides. In other words, you can ride on Thursday or Friday or both days, with networking on Thursday night and Friday morning. You choose the portions of the event that fit your schedule.

Thursday, March 25

1:30 – 4:30 Winter Wind Easy Riders

The first day of the Winter Wind begins with an afternoon “Easy Riders” snowmobile tour, especially organized for those that are new to the sport. Ben Carlson (Reliable Insurance) will guide the group on a mild ride to get people acquainted with the sport of snowmobiling. All riders are welcome on Thursday, but should expect that the pace and focus will be set by newer riders.

Easy Riders will leave from Steve’s Sports & Auto, which is the rental location for both days of the Winter Wind. Steve’s is just across the street from the Best Western Hotel. Rental of the machines begins at 10:00am each day. Rental machines can be reserved in advance for full-day rentals. Half-day rentals are available, but only on a first-come basis. Click here for more information and for rental options.

Highlights:

• Casual snowmobile ride of moderate distance

• Perfect for those new to the sport or just prefer a more relaxed experience

• Includes orientation

• Leaves from snowmobile rental shop (Steve’s Sports & Auto in Grand Marais)

o Rentals are available for both Thursday and Friday

The Winter Wind Wake-up is a group breakfast served in the Best Western lounge and lobby. Coffee, rolls, and omelets will all be available and are all included in your registration fee. Event sign-in will also take place during this time and in the same location. You can pick up your registration packet, chat with fellow riders, and enjoy a cup of coffee before heading out on your snowmobile excursion for the day.

Highlights:

• Breakfast in the hotel lobby and lounge

• Event sign-in

• Event packets with information, directions, trail map, and registration gift

• Hot cinnamon rolls, omelets, and coffee

9:30 – 5:00 Winter Wind Snow Trek

The Winter Wind Snow Trek is the highlight of the entire two-day event. Riders are free to travel in groups of their own choosing and make their way to the Trestle Inn for lunch. Lunch is included in the registration fee. In order to make the Trestle Inn by 12:00pm at a leisurely pace, non-rental riders will want to depart from the hotel by 9:30am.

Those that are renting machines, will want to leave the hotel around 9:15 and walk over to Steve’s Sports & Auto. There is some paperwork to complete before you will be assigned a machine. The snowmobiles are typically being prepped from 9:00am until 10:00am, which means that you will receive your machine at, or after, 10:00am. Lunch will be provided at the Trestle Inn, which is about 55 miles from Grand Marais by the shortest snowmobile route. Renters may want to allow for arrival at the Trestle Inn about 1:00pm.

After lunch, continue your exploration of the trails or head back to the hotel and return home. The afternoon is yours to plan.

• Leaving from the hotel

• Renters report to Steve’s Sports & Auto across from the hotel

• Non-renters proceed to the trails

• Riders are on their own to explore area trails

o Plan your ride to arrive at Trestle Inn between 12 & 1 for lunch

o Lunch included in registration fee

o Trail map provided in registration packet

• On your own after lunch to return home or continue exploring

Hotel rooms are available through Best Western Plus with rates starting at $149.99
