Event description

Description

The National Bargee Travellers Association London (NBTA L) invites you to our annual winter warmer for an evening of eating, drinking and boating discussions!

Along with a selection of freshly cooked food, we welcome a speaker (Cassi Perry) from a successful boater campaign in Oxford. Here, the council wanted to bring in measures which would ban the use of stoves, generators and static engines, thus banning the most common ways boat dwellers generate electricity and heat their homes. Not only this, the council also wanted the power to evict boats from anywhere in Oxford with 48 hr notice. However, boaters got together and stopped the council's plans and our guest speaker will discuss the details of how they won. Following this, we welcome a discussion on how the Oxford campaign relates to what's happening in London.

We welcome all boaters to come and cook with us too, and/or bring your own dishes. We will start cooking at 5pm. This will be a great event for traveling boaters to eat together, socialise and openly talk about defending our homes in a warm and friendly environment.

It will be held on Wednesday 13 December at 7pm at London Action Resource Centre 62 Fieldgate St, London E1 1ES

The venue can be found off Whitechapel Road, between Aldgate East tube and Whitechapel overground.
