Learn how and where to hike safely this winter at this Winter Hiking 101 Workshop with Renew Retreats and Happiest Outdoors.

About this Event

Join Renew Retreats founder and Fjallraven Local Guide Danielle Leroux and Happiest Outdoors creator and Leave No Trace Master Educator Taryn Eyton at a Winter Hiking 101 Workshop: Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

This workshop will help prepare you to hike and snowshoe safely this winter. Proceeds from the workshop will go to Girl in the Wild.

What to expect

  • 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm: enjoy light refreshments, connect with other local hikers, and shop at Fjallraven. Receive an in-store discount on purchases.
  • 7:00 pm: welcome by Renew Retreats founder and Fjallraven Local Guide Danielle Leroux
  • 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm: Winter Hiking 101 workshop by Happiest Outdoors creator and Leave No Trace Master Educator Taryn Eyton
  • 8:15 pm to 8:30 pm: enjoy light refreshments, connect with other local hikers, and shop at Fjallraven. Receive an in-store discount on purchases.

Who this workshop is for: any hiker. Suitable for all levels but designed for those newer to winter hiking or wanting a refresher on safe winter hiking and snowshoeing.

What you will learn:

  • Where to hike in the winter including snowshoeing and snow-free trails in the Lower Mainland
  • What to wear
  • What to bring and how to pack your winter hiking backpack
  • What to eat and drink in cold temperatures
  • Leave No Trace principles
  • Avalanche safety
  • Other winter hiking considerations
