About The Residency Project (TRP)

TRP is an artist residency and community arts organization. Our mission is to provide time and space in support of creative research, artistic experimentation, and arts-based community engagement. We focus on creating opportunities for practitioners who are traditionally underrepresented in the arts—women, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, artists with disabilities, and parents. We also emphasize opportunities for artists who give consideration to the environmental impact of their work and who actively pursue sustainable practices.

Why does your contribution matter?

Non-profit arts organizations across the country are largely reliant on the generosity of individual donors like you, especially as government support for the arts and grant funds grow increasingly scarce. TRP cannot do what we do without your support!

What do we do?

Practically speaking, my husband Matt and I open up our home to host outstanding artists from around the world, awarding them the opportunity to engage more deeply with their research and artmaking. Residencies are an important part of an artist's development, as it gives them the much needed time and space to develop the creative contributions they make to the world.

We also host public art events like film screenings, concerts, performances, and artist talks that are open to our community for free. Our community includes YOU. In essence, your donation is a way to give back to yourself while also supporting a broader community by extension.

Last year we were able to raise over $2,500 and we have many of you who are reading this right now, to thank for contributing to that impressive number!

In 2020, with your help, we were able to sponsor 6 artists-in-residence and host 7 public event offerings—an incredible accomplishment considering there's been a pandemic posing challenges for us all. We're so grateful, and now we're asking for your renewed support. We have so many exciting plans for the future! First, I can't wait to end the year together so we can head into 2021 with new and exciting possibilities on the horizon.

With love and gratitude,

Sarah Umles
