Description

The Winter insurance workshop focuses on building and installing a "Sugar Shim" and open Q&A with Master Beekeeper, Billy Davis.

Preparing a sugar shim offers the colony an insurance policy in the event they run out of stores before the weather warms for them to gather resources from outside the hive. The workshop will provide hands-on instruction on the construction and use of sugar shims for nucleus- and 8-frame-sized hives. Also included will be a discussion of hive ventilation needs and best practices.

  • Workshop Date: December 10, 2016
  • Workshop Location: SHP Barn at Purcellville, VA
  • Workshop Conditions: The Barn can be chilly, so dress warmly and bring work gloves
  • Cost: $20 minimum donation is requested

Particpants are encouraged to bring a folding seat as there is limited seating in the barn.
