Description

Please join us for a special concert that highlights the influence of Spanish folk music on the rich heritage of Sephardic Jewish music.

"My heart is in the East, but I am at the edge of the West..." Written by Yehudah Halevi, the renowned rabbi, poet, and philosopher, who lived most of his life in medieval Spain, the words of this famous poem live on as a symbol of the yearning of the Jewish soul to connect with its spiritual source, the land of Israel.

With musical selections ranging from medieval Spain to modern Israel, this deeply moving program features Manuel de Falla's famous song cycle for voice and guitar and Moses Ibn Ezra's medieval poetry sung in English. Traditional songs of the Sephardi Jews sung in Ladino, liturgical poems and popular Israeli songs composed with Sephardic flair round out the program.

Our beloved Cantor Shiree Kidron will perform this hauntingly beautiful and emotive program with acclaimed classical guitarist Nadav Lev, accompanied by renowned musicians Adam Fisher, cellist, and Rex Benincasa, percussionist. The concert will be followed by a reception.

$20 for Or Olam Members. Non-members $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
