Winter 2019 ART CLASSES
January 7 - March 25, 2019

Each art class meets for 2 hours once a week for 10 weeks.

All Art Supplies are provided.

FREE After School Program Open to all BRAC Students from 2:30 to 4:30pm.
BRAC
now provides all of its after school students with a safe place to stay and work before our Art Classes start at 4:30 in the studio where they can work on individual art projects and/or homework under supervision.

Space is limited, so please register to attend this program when ordering your class tickets.

Digital Photography with Roy Baizan - Computer Lab 2nd Floor

Ages 13-17 ($85 before 1/5 then $95)

Me and My Community.

Students will explore their community through photography. In this 10 week class, we will learn the basics of photography while exploring the community around us. We’ll learn the basics of photo composition (rule of thirds, leading lines, layering, etc). We will go outside for photo-walks and have group photo critiques. The class will culminate in a presentation of student work.

Teen Project Studio (TPS) with Krisia Ayala and Art Jones - Computer Lab 2nd Floor

Young Adults ages 15-22 (Free by application only)

TPS is a unique opportunity to experience and learn about the visual arts & creative industries in an interactive and challenging way. It is also an opportinity to meet other young adults with similar eagerness to learn and create. Group projects will focus on stop motion animation with 3-D printed objects.

Cartooning with Devon Purkiss - 2-D Studio 4th floor

Ages 10-16 ($85 before 1/5 then $95)

Sequential Art

How are Comics and Manga made? How can you create your very own? In this course, students will develop an original short comic story featuring their very own characters! Students will learn about lettering their stories, drawing backgrounds efficiently and effectively using perspective, as well as creating dynamic compositions. Work will be hand drawn with pencil and ink, students seeking additional challenge can add color to their work and will be guided on how to select colors that "pop"! Past BRAC Cartooning students will find this series as "the next step" in their development. Beginners with a strong interest in comics, cartoons, and art are welcome!

Digital Photography for Teens and Adults with Roy Baizan - Computer Lab 2nd Floor

Digital Photography

In this 10 week, 3 hour photography class, students will go over the basics of photography while also creating small bodies of work around the theme of documentary work. Emphasis will be on meeting outside for photo-walks and having group photo critiques. The class will culminate in a presentation of student work.

Painting with Joel Adas - 2-D Studio 4th floor

Ages 10-13 ($85 before 1/5 then $95)

Collage and Painting

We will explore the history of collage as it has related to painting throughout the history of art, starting with the early collaged cubist paintings of Picasso. We will explore how different and unusual painting techniques can be used in collage and we will use found as well as more traditional art materials to create our painted collages.

Ceramics with Ana Ruiz - 3-D Studio 4th floor

Ages 6-9 with Parent ($150 before 1/5 then $160)

Ages 6-17 ($85 before 1/5 then $95)

Adults ($110 before 1/5 then $120)

All ages welcome! Especially Parents with young children working together to learn the basics of ceramics with an emphasis on the creative use of clay to produce colorful sculptures. Both the art and craft are explored as participants create uniquely formed objects such as vases, boxes, cups and other utilitarian objects as well as realistic and abstract sculptures. Students will learn different modeling techniques such as pinching, coiling, slabs and glazing.

Surrealism Around Us

In this class we will delve into Surrealism in it’s many forms and functions and explore it’s possibilities in paintings. We will examine how Surreal artists created this unique approach to art making, and discuss the games and inventive strategies they came up with. In this class we will paint from life and from the imagination and will explore how these two different ways of making art can combine to create wonderful and unusual paintings.

Digital Animation with Krisia Ayala- Computer Lab 2nd floor

Ages 11-16 ($85 before 1/5 then $95)

For students who love animation, creating stories and producing videos, this digital animation class is for you. In the first half of the program, you will work with Adobe Animate and Photoshop to create the “subject” of your own animated short-form animated project. During the class you will create multiple projects designed to develop your animation skills. No prior experience necessary. All skill levels are welcome. Ideal for students who are looking to develop work for a portfolio presentation or personal animated projects.
