Event description
Foraging for your food can be a fun and frugal way to eat!

About this Event

• Registration is required by May 14.

• Limited to 20 people. Restricted to women ages 16 and up.

• Location: RCA Community Park (1400 W. RCA Park Dr., Bloomington)

Instructor: Rebecca Jania, Naturalist with Bloomington Parks and Recreation

Foraging for your food can be a fun and frugal way to eat! Not only can wild edibles enhance your usual dishes, like mushrooms for your pasta or flowers for your salad, they can also provide natural remedies for common ailments. During this workshop, we will discuss safe practices and useful identification techniques that will allow you to become more comfortable foraging on your own. Then, we will go on a short hike around the park to practice identifying common edibles in the wild. After the hike concludes, participants will have the opportunity to sample hot tea that was made from a plant harvested onsite. Recipes and identification handouts will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own notepad, writing utensil, and camera to help document the plants identified on the hike. 2 hours

This is an official WINGS event! The goal of Women in Nature Gaining Skills (WINGS) is to encourage and empower women with the skills and confidence they need to partake in outdoor recreation activities in the south central Indiana area. Each WINGS event features women-led hands-on training, with the goal of building a community of women interested in outdoor recreation. WINGS events take place on the 3rd Sunday of each month and are open to ages 16 and up.
