Consumer Tickets from 2-5pm: $60

All Access Tickets from 12-5pm: $80

Your Consumer Ticket includes: Unlimited access to approximately 90 wineries from 50+ California appellations pouring over 35 varietals and over 350 different wines; commemorative wine glass; a great variety of cheeses, breads and crackers.  Great way to taste and buy - the wineries are taking orders at this tasting, to be shipped from the winery.  Many wineries will be offering special pricing on shipping and/or select wines.  We encourage you to find the wines you love and have them shipped directly to you!

One thread weaves through this tasting -- a desire to bring you the best wines.  This tasting is about the breadth of wineries from across the state, an enormous range of varietals, and wine growing appellations from all over the state.  All Family Winemakers tastings focus on wineries that are small (generally under 5000 cases), have limited marketing outreach, and will be represented by family members.  There will be wineries at this event pouring with Family Winemakers for the first time.  It's an opportunity to expand your palate.  You can sample new releases from your classic favorites and from wineries just selling their first vintages.  CHECK out varietals you've never heard of or your best-loved Cabs and Chardonnays.  This well-respected tasting is a once-a-year opportunity to tour and taste California's wine country under one place.

For those that have not participated in a wine tasting of this size, we have developed some Helpful Hints (Click on the link to DOWNLOAD our Consumer guide to wine tastings).

Family Winemakers of California

In 1988, post-Prohibition history was made in the wine world: the dollar value of “premium” California wine sales surpassed that of “jug” wines. The state’s small, family-owned wineries needed a political presence to influence decisions affecting their segment of the wine industry.  A few movers and shakers met over many months and, in 1990, Family Winemakers of California was born.  In short order, it was agreed that a marketing activity was also needed in order to present the members' wines to their potential customers.  The staff of many of the members consisted of the owner, the spouse, and, if they were lucky, the kids -- they needed a way to bring their customers to them.  The first Family Winemakers tasting was held in San Francisco in 1991; 47 wineries poured, 350 members of the trade attended, what a success!

A couple of decades later, the tasting has expanded to 3 cities (San Francisco, San Diego, and Pasadena), showcases hundreds of member wineries, and attracts audiences in the thousands.  The original idea, however, hasn't changed.  California's small, family owned wineries pour their wines at the Family Winemakers tasting to make a direct connection with you, their customer.  Each has a unique story to tell and unique wines to pour.  To make the most of our tasting, do some homework -- use our website to see who will be there, who they are, and what they're pouring.  It's a once-a-year opportunity to meet, greet, and taste the best of California wines.
