Question 1

Physical ability

Accepted Answer

To walk the whole route (10k mixed terrain) you need moderate fitness level/ability. However, there are options to avoid some of the hills which will be pointed out to you. The final hike is more of a challenge, and intended for regular walkers, or there will be an alternative walk to the shops.

Question 2

Food?

You have to bring your own kosher for passover food in sealed picnic packaging or bags, in a rucksack, for you and your family to eat. At the picnic area there is lots of space, and families/friends can sit together or at separate table. If you want to bring a disposable table cover that is fine.

The loo?

There are WC's en route and these will be marked out for you in advance.

Suitable footwear and clothing

We are starting at the museum, so please make sure your boots are clean. After that most of the walking is on gravel or pathways. Clothing should be suitable for April showers! but this is not a major hiking event.

How long or difficult are the walks?

This is much more of a ramble than a hike. Information will be sent to participants with details of parking, timing, each of the walks so you will be able to decide whether to walk or your car. You will need to make a medical and fitness declaration so we can plan your trip safely.

What is the difference between the two days?

The Family Day content at the museum will be based on events after 14th August 1945 - second day for all Trevor will be more free to talk about his interviews of refugees.

Question 7

Can I bring my dog?

The LDHP allows guide-dogs only, and we plan to be there 90 minutes. Its best not to bring your dog unless they are ok in the car during the talk

Who is putting on the event?

The event is managed by Regenesis Events (CIC) a non-profit outdoor activity company focused on Holocaust education. Walks are guided by outdoor professionals trained and insured with Mountain Training.

Question 9

Why is there an age restriction?

Accepted Answer

This is an educational and walking event. Although the Windermere Children story is all about hope and recovery, the backdrop is about the Holocaust. If successful we will put this on again allowing younger ones who miss out to come another day.
