Event description
Wilton Makers connects you with traditional trades and crafts from the 18th and 19th centuries.

About this Event

Wilton House Museum debuts Wilton Makers in the Summer of 2019, a new line of programming that connects audiences with traditional trades and crafts from the 18th and 19th centuries. Join us for a coffee and a morning chat with a local artisan while they demonstrate and explain their trade, and how it’s kept alive today.

August’s Wilton Makers features Michael D. Bartolotta. Michael is an award winning designer and photographer who focuses on creating unique wet plate collodion tintypes (images on aluminum) and ambrotypes (images on glass). Michael’s tintype and ambrotype photographs are unique images made on location in the style and tradition of the mid-19th-century traveling photographers. Every tintype image is made directly onto a metal plate placed in the camera. These plates are individually prepared and must be exposed and developed within just a few minutes. Mastering the chemistry, lighting, and careful timing of tintype portraiture is a delicate balance of skill and pace and the result is a truly unique, hand-crafted object.

The third installment of Wilton Makers will take place on Saturday, August 30th, from 11 am to 12 pm.
