Organizer Wilmington Children's Chorus

Organizer of Wilmington Children's Chorus: Annual Holiday Concerts

The Wilmington Children’s Chorus name has become synonymous with excellence: excellence in singing, excellence in performance, and excellence in education.  A multi-cultural children's choir sponsored by the City of Wilmington, Dennis P. Williams, Mayor, as a project of Cityfest, Inc., the WCC gives youth the opportunity and tools to excel and enriches the community with the unique sound and spirit of children’s voices.

The WCC teaches music literacy and vocal skill and embraces a philosophy that values professionalism, personal responsibility, leadership, positive social interaction, and cultural diversity.  Choristers learn the value of discipline and practice as tools for reaching their potential.  They discover the benefits of hard work and the rewards of working together.  They study the cultural tapestry of our country and the world and engage in international exchanges with young people from Wilmington’s Sister Cities.

Known for their artistic excellence, WCC has collaborated with a number of highly respected artists and arts organizations, including the Delaware Symphony OrchestraFirst State Ballet Theatre, OperaDelaware, The Grand Opera House, The Delaware Valley Chorale, the Philadelphia Arab Music Ensemble with UNESCO Artist for Peace Marcel Khalife, and American composer Robert Powell (who arranged an original song cycle for the chorus).  WCC performed for Senator Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign and for Vice President Joe Biden at the rededication of the Wilmington Train Station in 2011.  In August 2011, WCC conducted its first concert tour of Europe with appearances in Paris, France and in Wilmington’s Sister Cities of Fulda, Germany and Nemours, France.  This summer they will host and perform in concert with the Chamber Youth Orchestra of Fulda, Germany.
