Williamson County Sheriff's Office Self Defense Academy for Children
The Williamson County Sheriff's Office Victim Assistance Unit is hosting a free Children's Self Defense Academy.
With the support of our surrounding law enforcement agencies and area first responders, the unit plans to host an event open to all ages to teach personal safety awareness and self-defense tactics to all age levels.
Parents are encouraged to attend an informational session with community leaders, local school officials and law enforcement personnel to learn how the community is working together to keep the safety of our children a top priority.
This event corresponds with the fifteen year anniversary of the disappearance of Rachel Cooke. Rachel went missing on January 10, 2002 while jogging in her Georgetown neighborhood. Rachel's mother, Janet Cooke will be attending the event to raise awareness of the importance of personal safety.
The Self Defense Academy will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Mortal Crossfit located at 1920 S. Austin, Ave. in Georgetown. The parent information session will be held simultaneously at Eight Count Boxing and Fitness which is conveniently located next door.
There will be assistance provided for special needs children.
Classes will be instructed in waves based on age:
The Avengers- Ages 3-7 9:00am-10:00am
The Defenders- Ages 8-12 10:30am-11:30am
The Legends- Ages 13-18 12:30pm-1:30pm
