Event description

Description

Teach North Korean Refugees and Stepping Stones will be holding a policy forum on October 21, 2017 from 2 to 5 pm at Resource for London, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA. Look for the Conference Hall.

There are 650 documented North Korean refugees in the U.K. (According to the 2011 Census: Quick Statistics for England and Wales on National Identity, Passports Held and Country of Birth.)

Many NK refugees reside in the New Malden area in the Korean enclave where they survive with menial jobs. According to a Time Magazine article: "They remain fearful of the British authorities and even the South Korean community, even though they are keen to help."

To provide practical English learning opportunities to NK refugees residing in the UK., we hope this event will bring awareness to the challenges facing NK refugees in the UK and motivate locals to get involved.
