Wildlife Food Plot Field Day

Come visit the local testing of food plot materials, management, and temporary deterrents.  We'll discuss all of this as part of a holistic approach to managing habitat for game species.  There will also be opportunities to hear about cost share assistance, learn how to age deer, identify native plants valuable for game species, and get your antlers scored according to the Florida Buck Registry.  Lunch and door prizes included!

  9:00 – 9:30   Welcome; Overview of wildlife habitat management at a landscape scale
  9:30 – 10:00 Nutrition requirements of game species; key native vegetation; seasonal availability
10:00 – 10:30 Managing native vegetation with fire and herbicides to improve habitat
10:30 – 10:45 Break
10:45 – 11:15 How old is that deer and why should you care?
11:15 – 11:45 Technical and cost share assistance
11:45 – 12:00 Food plot fertilization management
12:00 – 1:00   Poster and display session, lunch
  1:00 – 1:30   Load into vans and drive to demonstration area
  1:30 – 2:00   Food plot deterrents and fertilization
  2:00 – 2:30   Food plot material evaluation
  2:30 – 3:00   Native vegetation identification
  3:00 – 3:30   Load into vans and drive to main building
  3:30 – 4:00   Florida Buck Registry scoring—bring your antlers!
  4:00 -- 4:30   Adjourn/planning for extension agents




DIRECTIONS TO THE CENTER:

  • From I-10, take Exit #181 (SR-267), and go north approximately ¼ mile. The Center is on the left at Research Road.
  • From US-Highway 90, go south on SR-267 approximately 3 miles. The Center is on the right, before you reach I-10.
