Event description
Let's get out and explore more of what the beautiful Namadgi NP has to offer with a hike to Gibraltar Peak.

About this Event

I love Spring. It's such a beautiful time of year so let's get out and explore, hike a fun trail, have a laugh, enjoy the outdoors and time in nature!

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve offers outstanding wildlife and natural experiences. The 8.2 kilometre Gibraltar Peak walking trail is well worth the effort, and the magnificent views from the top are really rewarding.

The most direct route to Gibraltar Peak starts from Dalsetta, passing through open grassland before the climb to Eliza Saddle. From here, the trail traverses for a short distance featuring some fantastic views. After a steep climb, we will reach the imposing Gibraltar Peak.

We will return via the same route, although there is the option to take the longer route via Eliza Saddle, Birrigai Time Trail, the Visitor Centre and Congwarra Trail (details on this option to be confirmed).

When: 9:30am on Sunday September 29, 2019

An early start for this day as it is Footy Grand Final weekend and some might just want to be home in time to watch the game.

Where: We will meet and start the hike from the Dalsetta Car Park, Tidbinbilla Reserve Rd, Paddys Rover ACT 2620.

The drive can take about 45mins from Belconnen and Nth side of town but is significantly quicker from southside.

Duration: Allow 3 to 4 hours for the hike, lunch break and warm up and cool down stretching.

Distance: Approx 8.2km

Grade: Moderate (can be steep in parts).

Cost: $15 per person.

What you are getting:

▪️Snacks

▪️A hot drink tea/coffee/hot chocolate or refreshing iced tea/coffee (weather pending).

▪️Me - experienced hiker and Bushwalking Guide.

▪️I also hold a current First Aid Certificate and Remote Area First Aid.

▪️An epic day out exploring in nature.

What to bring/wear: Sturdy worn walking shoes or hiking boots, a hat, sunscreen, 1 litre of water, lunch and any preferred snacks. I always pack a roll or sandwich, as the boulders are a great place to sit and eat lunch and enjoy the view.

You may want to bring a small backpack if you don't want to carry your water bottle. It's also good for keys, phone and snacks.

You may need to wear something warmish. It can get windy up at the peak/boulders and although they do provide some shelter from the wind, it's best to be prepared and be comfortable.

Weather: I will update the weather forecast the day before just to ensure we can all be prepared. It is best to layer dress, and although the weather is getting warmer you never know what you will get on the day. It's easier to de-layer and to cool down once you have warmed up and layers are easier to carry in your back pack.

The day will only be cancelled/rescheduled if the weather looks horrendous and heavy rain is forecast 24 hrs out.

Can't wait to get out and wilderness wander with you!

Love Candi xx
