Ellen L. Smith, MD FACEP
Dr Ellen Smith is the founder and developer of the Wilderness Medicine Field Course which has trained over 700 medical providers in Wilderness Medicine. Held in the warm summer months the course trains medical providers in hands on Wilderness medicine in the beautiful parks surrounding Montgomery County, MD. Dr Ellen Smith is the System-wide Director of Sports Medicine for Emergency Medicine Associates, the premier metro area medical system provider of emergency care; and the Founder and Co-Director of MedStar Montgomery Sports Medicine. Dr. Smith has been a consultant for the FTC and National STudy group on youth sports medicine. Dr. Smith will be featured in an upcoming TV show, Maxed Out- The limits of Human endurance. Her recent articles include topics of Lyme Disease, and Surveillance Protocols for Youth Sports Injury. She teaches frequently and her Wilderness Medicine Field Course is adapted as course elective for the medical students at the Medical College of Virginia where she is an associate professor in surgery. While there is no substitute for a hands on education, these on-line educational seminars can be done from the convenience of your own device during an off season period.
