Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is the most popular course and it creates a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. Our Wilderness First Aid course acts as a base INTRODUCTION to responding to, and treating, medical and environmental emergencies, as well as introducing preventative strategies. Wilderness medicine provides the course curriculum and CERTIFICATION through Florida Outdoor Academy's certified instructors.
WHO IS THE WFA FOR?
The WFA is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants a basic level of first aid training for short trips with family, friends, and outdoor groups. It meets industry guidelines.
WHAT IS TAUGHT?
The WFA is 16 hours long (two days), and focuses on the basic skills of: Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies, Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies - see course outline in sidebar.
WHAT ABOUT ROOM AND BOARD?
Lodging is up to the student to SECURE. Florida Outdoor Academy is willing to help with suggestions and reccomendations for local lodging options.
IS THERE AN EXAM?
Yes, there is ongoing evaluation of practical skills, and there is a written examination and assessment upon completion of the course.
DO I GET CERTIFIED?
Yes. You will receive a Florida Outdoor Academy WFA certification, which is good for two years.
