Event description

Description

Wilderness First Aid provides information on how to handle common injuries and illnesses when medical care is an hour away or more. Participants can choose between the 8-hour basic course and the 16-hour standard course. The standard course certification is accepted by the Boy Scouts of America.

The basic course and the first half of the standard course will be held in a classroom setting. Students will learn to assess a patient, recognize altitude illness, treat wounds from sprains, fractures, insect & animal bites, etc.

The second half of the standard course will be Sunday, June 18, and we will be on the Appalachian Trail all day. Plan for about 5 miles of hiking interspersed with eight 1-hour hands-on training sessions. We will be practicing the skills learned in the previous sessions: bandaging, splinting, evacuating a patient, and more.

Certifications are valid for two years. Students will need a Textbook, Field Guide, or eBook (additional fees apply).

If you prefer to complete the classroom portion in one Saturday session click here.
