Event description

Join us for Wild Skills First Aid & CPR Day Camp presented by Clif Bar, a day camp at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma on Wednesday, July 25 - Thursday, July 26, 2018! Young girls will learn wilderness first aid and CPR while working with the strong women & men of the medical community thanks to a collaboration with Backcountry Medical Guides. This event is intended for ages 8 - 12 who identify as female.

This SheJumps' Wild Skills event is structured as half day camp experience, parents/legal guardians drop girls off, they play & learn for 3.5 hours and then are picked up. Throughout the camp, girls are taught a range of skills that they can use to keep themselves and others safe in the wilderness and everyday situations. Girls will work alongside medical professionals and volunteers to learn life saving skills and techniques.

SheJumps' Wild Skills youth events teach young girls the survival and technical skills they need for outdoor adventuring. Our events encourage girls to learn new skills, take on challenges and think creatively which develops perseverance and fosters confidence.

Objectives: Recent research documents that a child's understanding and retention of First Aid and CPR skills is comparable to adults, we aims to steer that capacity towards practical applications for the adventurous child. Focus is placed on prevention.

Certifications: During this course participants will earn CPR & Wilderness First Aid for Kids certifications.

Format: Two days, 3.5 hours per day. Team games and scenario challenges help kids understand and retain First Aid applications common to their age group (i.e. broken bones, cuts). Additionally, kids are taken outdoors to explore regional hazards and practice scenarios. Prepare to spend most of the day outdoors.
