Event description

Description

Wild Possibilities Devon - Women's Restorative Day Retreats are an opportunity for you to rejuvenate and refresh through nature connection and art therapy. The two events take place at Thorn House, which is only six miles from central Plymouth and is situated on the dawn facing hills above the river Yealm estuary. It is the perfect place of retreat and renewal and we have exclusive use of it's beautiful gardens throughout the day. During each retreat we come together as a small circle of women to create, to play and to explore our connection with the wild, with each other and with ourselves.

Art making, nature immersion, story telling, movement, singing and sharing around the fire are some of the day's activities. It is designed to be a day of deep retreat and of restoration from the busy world. A day to discover more of your own inner being whilst deepening your connection to the ancient earth. The retreat provides a safe space in which you have the opportunity if you wish to speak from the heart, a place where you can contemplate and renew. Parts of the day will be spent in silence and solitude allowing us the chance to further deepen into the land of the luminous and wild.

Each retreat includes a two course, organic lunch and morning and afternoon refreshments provided by Thorn House. The majority of the day will be spent outdoors so please bring clothing for all weathers including waterpoof trousers and jacket and a good pair of walking boots or very stout shoes. Also some parts of the garden are very steep therefore walking poles are recommended for those who are less steady on their feet since it can be very slippy.

Please note that the retreat is designed for adults and is a therapeutic experience rather than a course in therapy.

The event runs between 9:30 and 17:30.

Please contact Michelle at artcures@hotmail.co.uk with any further enquiries, for concessionary tickets and with any special requirements. We are sorry that we cannot provide refunds but should it be necessary it might be possible to swap to another retreat day.

In anticipation of joyfully welcoming you to this beloved place.

FAQs

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The venue is only six miles from Plymouth city centre and Plymouth is easily reached by road and rail. Coach companies such as Megabus, National Express and Falcon all provide budget transport to Plymouth.

The No: 48 bus travels from Royal Parade, Plymouth to Wembury approximately every two hours (please check bus timetable before travelling). However it is likely that nearer the time we can arrange for you to car share from Plymouth city centre to the venue. Please contact me at artcures@hotmail.co.uk if you might like to car share.

Thorn House has a car park adjacent to the front of the house which is accessed via a long driveway. Turn left off Wembury Road when you see the sign for Thorn House. You have gone a little too far if you find yourself at the end of the lane where there is only a footpath and a farm.

Where can I stay?

We highly recommend staying for a day or two in the area surrounding Thorn House. This will allow you time to relax, go within and really get the most from your day with us. I cannot say enough how special this particular outpost of South Devon/South Hams is. The coast here is less frequented by tourists and yet outstandingly beautiful.

Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers are picturesque villages on the opposite side of the river to Thorn House (with a local ferryboat to connect the villages to Wembury.) It would be a lovely way to arrive at the retreat with a stay in one of the many holiday cottages in either village and then a trip across the river on the ferry boat followed by a thirty minute walk to Thorn House. You will encounter the most spectacular views along the way.

There are campsites, chalets and airbnb's nearby but for those that would like to stay somewhere more luxurious I can personally recommend Langdon Court Hotel, Wembury and Kitley House Hotel, Yealmpton.

Please do contact me at artcures@hotmail.co.uk for any further help.
