Event description

Description

A current board member of the Orange County chapter of CNPS, Thea Gavin has had fun digging in the dirt as long as she can remember, and she's enjoyed growing organic fruits and vegetables around her home in West Orange since the late 1970s. She got rid of her lawn in 1985, and since then has been experimenting with a variety of low-water-use plants, resulting her in current "eco-system garden"--a mix of California native plants, citrus trees, and year-round vegetables that thrive on composted kitchen and yard waste and creative water use. Thea also founded the Heritage Garden at Concordia University Irvine in 2014, a combination of native plant habitat restoration and community food garden. Thea is a Concordia University professor emeritus and a Grand Canyon Association Field Institute instructor. Come join OHG and our guest Thea Gavin at the 1888 Center on Thursday evening, January 11th at 7pm for an educational and informative talk on intermixing California natives and vegetable, herb, and fruit producing plants into your home garden spaces. She's looking forward to sharing what she's learned throughout the years in her presentation about growing both "Wild Natives and Refined Veggies."
