Friends of Butte Creek Host the 13th Annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival

About this Event

Big Room Doors: 6:00 PM

Film: 7:00 PM

Food Service: 6:00-8:00 PM

You can help Friends of Butte in their efforts to preserve and protect the habitat of Butte Creek Canyon to ensure the survival of the last best runs of Spring run Chinook salmon in California. Friends of Butte Creek envisions a healthy creek environment having a vital riparian corridor, clean, cool, pure water, healthy runs of salmon and steelhead, and all creatures dependent on a thriving salmon population.

The November 8¸ 2018 Camp Fire severely impacted Butte Creek Canyon, its ridges, and the creek itself. Approximately 50% of the homes were lost in the fire. The resultant debris and released toxins in the runoff and erosion have become dangerous threats to the creek and the survival of the fish. The riparian corridor has been severely disturbed with many of the trees and bushes gone. Friends of Butte Creek is working with the community of Butte Creek, Chico and Paradise in volunteer restoration efforts, Butte County Fire Safe Council, Butte County Resource Conservation District, CA Department of Fish and Wildlife, and support of the Department of Wildlife, Fish & Conservation Biology at University of California, Davis, as well as USFWS, DWR, and NOAA Fisheries. Grant proposals have been submitted to fund work to restore the creek environment and to provide safeguards for the creek and community of Butte Creek Canyon in the future.

Please support the efforts of Friends of Butte Creek by buying a ticket to our 13th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival and becoming a member!

We have 14 astounding, inspiring, awesome films for you for a great evening.

About Wild and Scenic:

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started in 2003 by the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL, pronounced ‘circle’), a watershed advocacy group based in the Sierra foothills of Northern California. The organization was formed in 1983 when a small group of concerned citizens banded together to fight against several proposed dams.

The festival’s namesake is in celebration of achieving Wild & Scenic status on 39 miles of the South Yuba River in 1999. The festival celebrates its annual event in Nevada City, CA each winter featuring over 150 awardwinning films and welcoming filmmakers, celebrities, and activists who bring a human face to the environmental movement. SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a call to action! The films illustrate not only the challenges facing our planet but the work communities are doing to protect the environment and the places we love. The stories give us a sense of place and what it means to be responsible stewards of the earth.
