Wiking Winter Invitational 2017
Fri, Feb 3, 2017, 1:00 PM – Sun, Feb 5, 2017, 2:00 PM EST
You are invited to attend a World War II weekend of fun at the Fort Custer Training Center in Augusta, Michigan, just west of Battle Creek. This event is open to 5 SS "Wiking" re-enactors and the US 45th Infantry I&R Platoon (HRS) and their guest units. Authorized units will be added to the list of tickets!
Note: This event is intended for established units to plan and develop an annual meeting in the off season. Your private barracks floor can be used for any kind of classroom or training activity that you like. Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning are reserved for winter tactical training! Hot lunches on Saturday and Sunday are provided along with dinner and entertainment Saturday night. The messhall snack bar is open both mornings to purchase various breakfast items.
By registering, you are committing to the hosts and your unit commander that you will attend and pay the fee (as calculated by how many of your unit attends - cash or check) when you arrive. We are not taking credit cards for preregistration for this event to save administrative costs. If you register and cannot attend, you will be expected to pay for the $9 dinner fee charged by the caterer unless you take yourself off the eventbrite registration list prior to registration ending!!
The POC for any specific questions for this event is Alan Miltich, email WikingPionier@Comcast.net or Phone 517-414-1164 (text or voice) 9am – 9pm Eastern time, please!
You must preregister for this event to get in the security gate!
Eventbrite registration closes on Thursday February 2, at 1pm (EST)
Notice that this event continues THROUGH LUNCH on Sunday!
** NOTE! ** Due to security concerns, the military is becoming more concerned about the ammunition and pyrotechnics that are brought on the base. NO LIVE AMMO! No homemade pyro, only store bought, non-aerial (ala rocket) pyro. No ammo in the barracks area! HAVE ALL YOUR BLANK AMMO PACKED IN SEE THROUGH ZIP LOCK BAGS with YOUR NAME AND UNIT NAME CLEARLY MARKED to assist in Saturday distribution!! The Security Guards must see the tips of all ammo to ensure they are blanks – THINK like a security guard and pack the bags very loosely, LESS THAN ½ FULL so the bag can be laid out on a flat surface and contents inspected easily! The larger the bag the better! Have your weapons and ammo readily available for the security check and things speed up!
Belt fed ammo boxes are fine as-is, as the belted ammo is easy to inspect for live rounds. The completed boxes are then collected. Inspected ammo can be put into any kind of marked box or bag for easy carry. The ammo will be collected at the Security Gate by Wiking staff, to be taken to the Wiking "ammo dump" on the edge of the tactical area. After your vehicle is inspected, you are welcome to stop at the Ammo Dump, as that is also where ammo vendors will be set up. If you want to preload your weapon magazines, you are welcome to do so at this time, please provide a marked bag or box that the loaded mags can be stowed in for the night. Prior to Saturday inspection, all units will pick up their ammo at the Ammo Dump" prior to deploying to the field.
BAYONETS will be allowed on base but KEEP THEM SHEATHED and STOWED AWAY until the Saturday tactical. NO WEARING OF BAYONETS in the barracks area. Anyone wearing a bayonet except for in the tactical will be escorted off base! No other knives longer than 4” will be allowed on base.
NOTE: Do not use the mailing address in a GPS as it will not take you to the security gate! Use "1 Denso Road" for your GPS. To get to Fort Custer, take I-94 to Exit 92 (Climax Road) and turn NORTH. The road will curve to the left and the second traffic light is Hill-Brady Road, turn WEST (left). After about 3/4 mile turn LEFT on to Denso Road to the entry Gate. Have your Picture ID ready. Proceed straight ahead and follow the road and “WW2” signs to the Registration Mess Hall. We are using the modern barracks, but only bunk beds and rough pillows are provided, so bring your own bedding!
You may arrive anytime after 1300 hrs on Friday, February 3.
Remember, we are guests of the base and your behavior should reflect that.
Please, only period style vehicles parked next to the barracks. Unload your gear and park in the Privately Owned Vehicle (POV) parking lot.
You are welcome to bring your own adult beverages for the Saturday banquet. “Custer’s First Stand”, the on-base bar will be open both Friday and Saturday.
For those bringing Class III weapons from out of state,
Fort Custer Training Center
2501 26th Street
Augusta, MI 49012-9205 is what you’d use for your ATF forms.
NO overnight POV parking in front of barracks!
Preregister at: http://WikingWinter2017.eventbrite.com/
We need you to preregister via Eventbrite to create a list for the Security Guards. Registration is free, but the cost of the event is scheduled by how many of your unit are sharing a barrack floor. More than one smaller unit can choose to share a floor, thus spreading the cost of the floor among more people.
The per person for barracks and mess hall is based on how many people in your unit are attending:
15 or more sharing a floor $13 each
10 - 14 sharing a floor $17 each
6-9 attending $20 each
$7 for the two hot lunches
$9 for the dinner
Add up your barracks cost based on the schedule above plus the cost of the 3 meals ($16 for three meals) and that is your fixed cost at registration. For example, a member of a large unit like Wiking would pay $13+16 = $29.
Costs are approximate, not exact, but the idea is to have the building and meal expenses covered. If you preregister, your meal is going to be reserved for you SO IF YOUR PLANS CHANGE MAKE SURE YOU CANCEL YOUR REGISTRATION! I would hate to have to send you a bill for a meal you did not eat, nor do we want to pay for a meal to the caterer for a meal ordered and not attended!
a limited amount of bottled water, soft drinks, beer, juice botles, breakfast sweet rolls, microwave breakfast sandwiches will be available if you forgot your own. Coffee will be provided. Breakfast Saturday and Sunday are on your own (see above if you forget anything). Hot lunch Saturday and Sunday, catered dinner Saturday night. The mess hall has microwaves, refrigerators and freezers for your use.
