Description

Global Wiki Edit-a-Thon

The Zebra Partnership have joined forces with a variety of organisations to host a communal wiki update on 8-9 October 2018 to improve the coverage of women and diversity on Wikipedia. The Pankhurst Centre have kindly agreed to be our Zebra Hub on 9th October.

Wikipedia is the first to admit that they have some big gender and diversity gaps. In 2011 only 10% of wiki contributors were female and in 2018 only 17% of entries are about women. Let’s help change that!

Join hubs worldwide on the 8th-9th October 2018 for a communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to women and diversity in science, technology, art, business and more. Huge ‘Thank You’ to Katy Alexander and her team at Digital Science for coordinating this.

Zebra Hub Hosts:

Carol Ann Whitehead and Google Expert Susan Dolan.

We're very excited to have Claire Moore, co-founder of Certain Curtain Theatre Company and Woman on Fire: Edith Rigby play joining us for the whole Wikieditathon dressed as Edith Rigby and welcoming you to both sessions also Zoe Philpott will join us on the second session, to give a talk and close the Wikiediton. She has created fantastic Ada.Ada.Ada the Ada Lovelace show.

Let us know if you want to join us at the Pankhurst Centre, 60-62 Nelson St, Manchester, M13 9WP between 1pm and 9pm on October 9th 2018. All you need is a laptop or tablet to upload the information as directed by our onsite ‘Wiki Editor’. Refreshments will be provided by The Launch Project.

There will be an opportunity to look around the museum and have your photo taken in Emmeline Pankhurst parlour where she hosted the early Suffragette meetings. We’re also taking donations on the day to support the work of the Pankhurst Trust. #StillMarching
