On Friday, January 6th 2017 Brooklyn Art Song Society (BASS) continues its five concert series Wien with a program dedicated to the lieder of Gustav Mahler. Best known for his monumental symphonies, Mahler was also a gifted composer of song. BASS presents three of the composers best known cycles in their original and intimate piano versions: Kindertotenlieder, Des Knaben Wunderhorn, and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. The performers include some of New Yorks finest singers: soprano Kristina Bachrach (Winner, Ziering- Conlon Competition), mezzo soprano Hyona Kim (Winner, Joy in Singing), and baritones Christopher Herbert (New York Polyphony) and Sidney Outlaw (Metropolitan Opera). In addition, at 7PM Columbia University professor and Mahler expert Marilyn McCoy will give a free pre-concert lecture.
