This luncheon will provide an overview of the critical elements of the General Data Protection Regulation taking effect May 25, 2018. We will discuss how this new regulation will affect you, and what you can do to minimize exposure. We will look at specific GDPR requirements and offer practical solutions for moving forward.

EMILY COHEN, Associate Director in the Chicago office of Navigant’s Global Legal Technology Solutions Structured Analytics team.

Emily Cohen has over 11 years of experience in project management involving large scale analytics, management of enterprise data systems, regulatory compliance, and legal discovery. Emily’s combination of technical, financial, and subject matter expertise allows her to work directly with client management in legal and compliance as well as those in IT and third-party data providers to understand where electronic information lives, how it proliferates throughout the organization, and best practices to govern that data to manage risk and provide insight. She excels at solving complex problems in legal and compliance environments. Emily has led numerous engagements for litigation readiness assessments, data mapping exercises, mortgage-backed security e-discovery, and many other proactive assessments and responsive litigation support engagements. Emily is currently managing GDPR readiness implementations for various clients spanning from local technology service providers to large multinational corporations including overall project management, creating data inventories, data protection impact assessments and remediation plans.

DAWN M. CASSIE, CIPP/US, Associate General Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer, Navigant Legal

Dawn Cassie is Counsel to Navigant’s Managing Directors and other consultants in various practice groups, most currently serving as the primary attorney for Navigant’s Energy Practice. Dawn also serves as Navigant’s Chief Privacy Officer responsible for developing and implementing Navigant’s privacy program including GDPR implementation. Dawn is the Operational lead in the legal department for all Company intellectual property matters including managing Navigant’s IP portfolio.

DEBBIE REYNOLDS, Director, Eimer Stahl Discovery Solutions LLC

Debbie Reynolds, the Director of EimerStahl Discovery Solutions LLC, an affiliate of Eimer Stahl LLP, advises Fortune 500 companies on global data privacy and the management of electronic evidence in high-stakes litigation. Ms. Reynolds also is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, a guest lecturer for various U.S. Law Schools, a published author, and speaker on the impact of global data privacy and eDiscovery. Ms. Reynolds has also been recognized in 2017 as a Legal Industry Visionary. With more than 20 years of experience in the eDiscovery industry, Ms. Reynolds has been pivotal in the direction, organization, operation, and implementation of eDiscovery and litigation services operations for leading law firms including WilmerHale, Orrick, and Morgan Lewis. Ms. Reynolds is a frequently published author and a highly sought speaker on eDiscovery topics for corporations and legal industry conferences. Ms. Reynolds has also been an annual chapter author for the Thomson Reuters editions of the book titled “eDiscovery for Corporate Counsel,” since 2015 and co-author of the Bloomberg Law Insight published in 2017 titled “How Privacy Protections and Data Are Changing Antitrust in Tech.”

DR. JUSTYNA (BALCARCZYK) REGAN, Senior Attorney, Miller Canfield

Dr. Justyna (Balcarczyk) Regan is an attorney licensed in Poland (radca prawny) and in Illinois, and a senior attorney in the Chicago office of Miller Canfield. She also works closely with the firm’s offices in Poland. Justyna specializes in international transactions, advising clients on all aspects of their business activities. In particular, she concentrates on Polish companies carrying on their business in the United States and trying to enter the U.S. market, as well as on global businesses operating in Europe generally, especially Poland, and those interested in pursuing further greenfield investments, joint ventures, and trade with Poland.

Justyna’s practice specialties include European, U.S. and multi-national business law and intellectual property law, in particular software licensing. She also has experience in corporate and commercial law, international transactions and joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and securities, private equity, venture capital, equity and debt financing and project finance.

Justyna has built a recognizable international reputation in the area of cross-border defamation and data privacy. During her academic career, she has published multiple articles and books, in Polish, English and Spanish, on the international aspects of rights of personality, including data privacy. She has served as an expert witness on Polish law and she was appointed a Special Master in a United States Federal Court case that involved cross-border discovery. She is a member of the firm’s Data Privacy Team, where she has been handling cases involving transfer of data from the E.U. to the U.S.

Tomi Taggart's over 25 years of experience as a strategic business and sales leader has been focused in the legal technology and professional services sector overseeing technology enabled solutions in rapidly changing markets. Tomi’s combination of legal, technical, and subject matter expertise allow her to work directly with internal and external client delivery teams to ensure that every client relationship and engagement is managed in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Tomi is currently working with Navigant’s GPDR and privacy delivery team in managing overall client relationships while ensuring client satisfaction and developing future GDPR related initiatives.
