Description

A HARAMBE SOCIAL SERVICES TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT : SERVING AFRICAN AMERICAN VICTIMS OF CRIME

This three-part training series facilitated by Harambe Social Services focuses on barriers to African American victims of crime, particularly domestic violence and sexual violence and designed for victim service providers. Each five-hour training sessions will explore the unique barriers that African American/Black victims may encounter that impact their ability to seek services and follow through. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all three trainings, but each session can stand alone and will be offered at different locations at different times. All workshops are FREE and will held from 10:00 am-4:00 pm.

WHY CONSIDER DIVERSITY IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WORK

Participants will explore and reflect on societal issues that influence their work with victims who are Black/African American. Participants will also review the levels of disproportionality within systems that create barriers for victims. Participants will get clear answers to the questions: Why do they stay? Why do they recant?
