Event description

Description

Join a panel of UC Berkeley alumni for a discussion on the value of a Cal education and what it means to be an alumnus. Panelists will talk about their time as students, what steps they took to ensure success post grad, and their lives after Cal.

Our panelists include:

Marisa Asari, ’16 Public Health | Project Manager at Institute of Urban and Regional Development
Marisa Ruiz Asari is a Project Manager at the Institute of Urban and Regional Development at UC Berkeley. As an Oakland Bay Area native, she grew up questioning place based social and racial inequality, but never understood how the puzzle pieces fit together until she discovered the fields of public health and city planning. She now helps manage a range of global and local projects that engage community partners working to advance equity and improve public health with and for the urban poor. Some of her current work includes supporting an informal settlement upgrading process in Nairobi, Kenya, and research on urban transformation and violence reduction in Medellín, Colombia. In addition, Marisa works closely with graduate students in the Department of City and Regional Planning and School of Public Health at UC Berkeley, helping to facilitate seminars and support studio courses. She also does part time graphic design and data visualization consulting for non-profits and local health centers. In her time as a Berkeley student, Marisa was a resident assistant in Unit 2 for three years, and co-founded a student organization in partnership with community health center La Clinica de La Raza, to bridge the gap between student volunteers and local community health centers serving low-income communities of color. She graduated in 2016 from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Public Health.

Katherine McGauley '17 Cognitive Science, Computer Science | Cyber Defense Technology Specialist, Darktrace
Katherine McGauley graduated from UC Berkeley with a double major in Computer Science and Cognitive Science and is currently a Cyber Defense Technology Specialist for Darktrace in San Francisco. As a student, Katherine was involved with the Rally Committee, Berkeley Global Internships, and the computer science education initiative "The Beauty and Joy of Computing." Her first college job was a Student Assistant for the Cal Alumni Association, and she later became Executive Director of the Cal Alumni Student Association.

Kirk Tramble '93 Electrical Engineer & Computer Science | Consulting Project Technical Manager, Oracle
Kirk Tramble has been managing the implementation of financial solutions for Oracle / NetSuite since July 2014. At Oracle, he drives the implementation of enterprise resource planning software solutions. Prior to Oracle, Kirk managed business transformation applications for Innovative Interfaces. Additionally, Kirk worked for over 15 years with Chevron Corporation in San Ramon, CA. Cal is a family affair for Kirk. He is a second-generation Cal alum and his son Gabriel, is a UC Regent Scholar and a member of the class of 2019.

Jesse Ante '68 Mechanical Engineering, M.S. '70 Mechanical Engineering
Jesse entered the US Air Force after graduating from Cal with his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering. After his service, he worked as an engineer for PG&E and the California Public Utilities Commission. While working, Jesse served as a Board Member at CAA for three years, and he is still involved with CAA today as a student mentor. His work has made a huge impact on the general welfare of the association.
